Vascular CT Appearances
Polyarteritis Nodosa (PAN) CT Findings
- Aneurysm formation of small and medium size arteries (hallmark)
- Renal involvement is characteristic (infarcts, microaneurysms, indistinct corticomedullary differentiation)
Other Information About Polyarteritis Nodosa (PAN)
Etiology:
- Unknown
- Linked to hepatitis B
Epidemiology:
- More common in males
- Typically presents in middle age
Presentation:
- Fatigue and/or weakness
- Night sweats
- Fever
- Anorexia
- Weight loss
- Skin sores
- Muscle and/or joint pain
Prognosis:
- PAN is fatal without treatment
- After treatment, the 5-year relative survival rates have been reported as 50-80%
