Etiology:

  • Genetic mutation
  • Can be hereditary

Epidemiology:

  • Rare

Presentation:

  • Hypermobile joints
  • Stretchy skin
  • Prone to bruising and cuts that take longer than normal to heal
  • Fatigue
  • Joint pain

Prognosis:

  • There is no cure for EDS
  • Patients with EDS can live relatively normal lives with no change in expected lifespan
  • Traumatic injury and physical activity may be more life-threatening to a patient with EDS than one without
