Aortic Transection CT Findings

  • Usually secondary to trauma
  • Usually occurs at the level of the ductus region
  • May have associated adrenal or spine fracture
  • Mediastinal hematoma is common
  • Active bleeding may be seen

Etiology:

  • Trauma

Epidemiology:

  • Anyone is susceptible to aortic transection

Presentation:

  • Usually found on imaging follow-up to trauma

Prognosis:

  • After aortic rupture, mortality rate is over 90%
