Median Arcuate Ligament Syndrome (MALS) CT Findings
- Narrowing of the proximal celiac artery with “hooked” appearance
- Inferior displacement
- May develop collateral vessels
- Best seen on sagittal images
Other Information About Median Arcuate Ligament Syndrome (MALS)
Etiology:
- Unknown
Epidemiology:
- More common in females
- Typically presents before age 40 and can present at any age, including in childhood
Presentation:
- Typically asymptomatic
- Postprandial abdominal pain
- Nausea and/or vomiting
- Diarrhea
Prognosis:
- MALS will need to be treated with surgery
- After surgery, prognosis is very good
