Emphysematous Pyelitis CT Findings
- Gas bubbles or fluid levels in renal pelvocaliceal system
- Gas may be present in ureters
- Dilated collecting system

Other Information About Emphysematous Pyelitis
Etiology:
- Caused by bacteria
Epidemiology:
- Typically presents in middle age but has been documented in a wide range of ages
Presentation:
- Abdominal pain
- Fever
- Nausea and/or vomiting
- Shortness of breath
Prognosis:
- Emphysematous Pyelitis is typically benign but can lead to emphysematous pyelonephritis which is fatal
- Should be treated promptly with surgery to avoid sepsis/shock
