  • Focal mass
  • Small filling defect
  • Calcification in bladder wall

Other Information About Bladder Cancer

Etiology:

  • Smoking greatly increases risk
  • Exposure to workplace chemicals (dyes, leather, paint, etc)
  • Frequent UTIs
  • Familial history

Epidemiology:

  • Male to female ratio is 4:1
  • Typically presents after age 55
  • Twice as common in people of European ancestry

Presentation:

  • Hematuria
  • Dysuria
  • Polyuria
  • Back and/or pelvic pain

Prognosis:

  • The 5-year relative survival rates are:
    • In situ: 97%
    • Localized: 72%
    • Regional: 40%
    • Distant 9%
    • All SEER stages combined: 78%
