Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) CT Findings

  • Vessel connecting the main pulmonary artery and the aorta that is patent
  • Calcification at the site of the PDA is common
  • Communication best seen on MPR and 3D images
  • Flow may be from aorta to pulmonary artery or pulmonary artery to aorta

Etiology:

  • Unknown

Epidemiology:

  • Infants born weighing less than 1000-2500g
  • Infants born at less than 26 weeks gestation

Presentation:

  • Asymptomatic

Prognosis:

  • Treated PDA has a good prognosis
