Myocardial Bridging CT Findings

  • An epicardial segment of a coronary artery that courses through the myocardium
  • Nonatherosclerotic anatomic abnormalities of the coronary arteries
  • Muscle overlying a segment of coronary artery causes this appearance
  • Congenital anomaly seen in 0.5-2.5% of angiographic studies
  • LAD midsegment is most common zone involved
  • Deep segment bridging is 2.3 mm or more myocardial coverage

Etiology:

  • Unknown

Epidemiology:

  • Predominance in males
  • Generally present after 2nd decade of life

Presentation:

  • Often an incidental finding
  • Chest pain
  • Jaw and arm pain
  • Arrhythmia
  • Palpitations
  • Shortness of breath

Prognosis:

  • Generally good
  • Incidence of sudden death has been reported
