Papillary Fibroelastoma CT Findings

  • Collection of avascular fronds of dense connective tissue lined by endothelium and may arise from any endocardial surface attached to valves by short pedicles
  • Short pedicle and multiple papillary fronds
  • Majority are found on the aortic and mitral valves
  • Most papillary fibroelastomas are solitary and small
  • Average diameter of 10mm

Etiology:

  • Unknown

Epidemiology:

  • Largely unknown as PFs are very rare
  • Mean age is around 60 years

Presentation:

  • Asymptomatic
  • Some patients may have chest pain, syncope, or stroke

Prognosis:

  • Good prognosis with tumor removal
