CASE NUMBER 329
Diagnosis

Persistent Trigeminal Artery

Note
These images demonstrate a vascular structure arising from the junction of the petrous and cavernous segments of the left internal carotid artery which forms an anastomosis with the basilar artery. The vertebrobasilar system is relatively hypoplastic as well as the P1 segment of the right posterior cerebral artery. Findings are compatible with a persistent trigeminal artery which is found in less than 1% of cerebral angiograms and has an association with intracranial aneurysms. The shape has been likened to the greek letter tau.
