CASE NUMBER
330
Diagnosis
Acute parotiditis
Note
These images show linear and diffuse areas of increased T2 signal and non-mass like enhancement predominantly involving the superficial right parotid gland, best demonstrated on fat-saturated images, as well as mild asymmetric enlargement of the gland. Findings are compatible with acute parotiditis which has a number of causes including viral or bacterial infection, sialolithiasis, autoimmune diseases, and some medications. There was no evidence of a dilated duct to suggest obstruction or atrophy of the gland on these images to suggest a chronic process.
