Normal Anatomy
Lateral view of the left coronary artery: These illustrations show the left main coronary artery and its branches, as well as the lateral view of the main coronary artery bifurcation, LAD, and the left circumflex artery. The left circumflex artery travels posteriocircumventrally and gives rise to the atrial branch, the left marginal branch, and the posterior left ventricular branch in a heart that is “left coronary dominant.” The left circumflex artery gives rise to the posterior descending artery in 15% of humans. In a “right coronary dominant heart” the posterior descending artery is supplied by the right coronary artery.
