CASE NUMBER 240
Diagnosis

Scalp Fibrolipoma

Note
43-year-old male with a palpable scalp soft tissue abnormality at the level of the vertex. There is a partially circumscribed T1- and FLAIR-hyperintense mass within the scalp at the level of the vertex. The lesion abuts the outer cortical table, without erosions or remodeling. The lesion suppresses on the fat-saturated T1 and STIR-weighted images. The lesion was suspected to be an encapsulated lipoma, but on histologic section, a diagnosis of scalp fibrolipoma was given. A fibrolipoma is a benign connective tissue lesion more common in adults. Treatment is usually for cosmetic purposes. Surgical resection is usually curative.
