Diagnosis
Coracoid process fracture
Note
This is a case of a 33 year old male who presented with shoulder pain following a motor vehicle collision. Radiographs of the shoulder were subsequently obtained. The frontal radiograph demonstrates that the shoulder is well located. There is no evidence of fracture of the clavicle, acromion process, or the humerus. As part of a routine shoulder series, an axillary view is acquired to assess for glenohumeral subluxation or dislocation. On this patients axillary view, there is no evidence of dislocation but there is a transverse fracture of the coracoid process of the scapula as indicated by the red area. These types of fractures are usually seen in high velocity trauma.
