CASE NUMBER 48
Diagnosis

Metastases- spine, thyroid

Note
A large, expansile mass infiltrates the posterior elements of the C2 vertebral body with mild concentric encroachment of the spinal canal. This was proven histopathologically to represent a site of follicular thyroid carcinoma metastatic disease. Thyroid and renal cell carcinoma are classic causes of "exploding" lytic osseous lesions.
