CASE NUMBER 353
Diagnosis

Adult Hypoxic Ischemic Injury

Note
These CT images show roughly symmetric hypodensity and enlargement of the basal ganglia, bilaterally. To the untrained eye, this may be difficult to pick up on given the symmetry. There is also subtle loss of gray white matter differentiation involving the cingulate gyri which likely represent additional ischemic infarcts. The involvement of the deep gray matter structures in this case signifies severe injury. Other considerations although much less likely include toxic/metabolic injury and mitochondrial disorders.
