Hepatocellular Carcinoma (Hepatoma) CT Findings
- Hypervascular nodules with washout in the early phases
- Hypodense nodules in the later phases
- Low attenuation on delayed phase imaging
- Capsule appearance common
- “Mosaic” pattern of enhancement
- Multiple phases, including delayed phase, needed for accurate diagnosis
Other Information About Hepatoma
Etiology:
- Associated with cirrhosis
- Hepatitis B or C
Epidemiology:
- More common in males
- Typically seen in patients over age 55
Presentation:
- Abdominal pain
- Weight loss
- Jaundice
- Abdominal swelling
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Itching
Prognosis:
- Five-year relative survival rate is 21%
