Effective Preclinical Radiology Education: A Medical Student's Perspective

My radiology education during the clinical years as a medical student was markedly different from my exposure to radiology in my preclinical years of training, which consisted heavily of passive learning through occasional dedicated radiology lectures. During the radiology clerkship in the clinical years, interactive small-group lectures supplemented with workstation teaching helped me gain insight into the variety of topics covered in radiology and the critical thinking and teamwork that was necessary to determine how imaging findings fit in with patients’ clinical scenarios. I also witnessed how radiologists engage with other physicians and patients and the wide spectrum of radiologic procedures performed.
