One of the frequent concerns of radiology educators is the depth of learners’ understanding. At a time when medical students and residents feel pressure to focus their sights on multiple-choice question banks, as opposed to textbooks, there is danger that learners are developing a relatively superficial grasp of many topics (1). To encourage them to delve more deeply into matters, educators should consider adopting an elaborative teaching approach.
