I began my career as an investment banker. Investment banking is a complex but fundamentally quantitative field where my job was to distill large amounts of data into a clean, understandable story for clients. Although I redirected to marketing while in business school, I nonetheless remained focused on the idea that complexity could be simplified. Partly as a result, I have come to run marketing and communications for a new stock exchange, IEX. IEX is small by relative standards—we employ approximately 90 people and have about 2.5% market share, and we compete with the New York Stock Exchange and the NASDAQ.
