The ACR has demonstrated a long-standing commitment to the safe and appropriate use of medical imaging, as evidenced by the creation of the ACR Appropriateness Criteria in 1993 ; partnership with the Society for Pediatric Radiology on the Image Gently® campaign in 2007 ; collaboration with the RSNA, American Society of Radiologic Technologists, and American Association of Physicists in Medicine to develop the Image Wisely® program for adult patients in 2010 ; and more recently as a founding contributor to the Choosing Wisely® campaign in 2012 . The ACR was one of nine medical specialty societies that partnered with the American Board of Internal Medicine Foundation to launch the Choosing Wisely campaign, whose mission is to “promote conversations between clinicians and patients by helping patients choose care that is supported by evidence, not duplicative of other tests or procedures already received, free from harm, and truly necessary” .
