Special Studies

question1. What is virtual colonoscopy and what is the patient prep for the study?
question
question3. What contrast do you put in the bladder (type and volume)?
questionWe drip in up to 530 cc of contrast (500 cc bag of saline mixed with 30cc of Omnipaque-350.

The contrast is dripped in under gravity and when the patient has pain or the contrast runs out we will stop and then restart the study.

"Virtual Cystoscopy is more accurate than multiplanar reconstruction and source CT images for the detection of lesions in the bladder."

Comparison of Virtual Cystoscopy, Multiplanar Reformation, and Source CT Images with Contrast Material Filled Bladder for Detecting Lesions
Kim JK et al.

"MDCT cystoscopy is an accurate technique for the detection of urinary bladder neoplasms in patients at high risk, yielding satisfactory results in the identification of lesions smaller than 0.5 cm."

16-MDCT Cystoscopy in the Evaluation of neoplasms of the Urinary Bladder
Tsampoulas C et al.
AJR 2008; 190:729-735

"Fifty-five (96%) of 57 urinary bladder lesions recognized at conventional cystoscopy were detected at MDCT cystoscopy. The size of the lesions ranged from 0.3 to 9.7 cm in diameter, including 18 lesions with a diameter of 0.5 mm or less. Transverse, multiplanar reformatted, and virtual images proved complementary for lesion detection"

CT Cystoscopy Technique

•14 French foley catheter placed in bladder
•Urine drained
•Bladder distended with 300-500 ml of room air
•Patient examined both supine and prone
•No IV contrast was used
•.75 mm detector collimation
•1 mm slice thickness
•1 mm interscan spacing
•Images reviewed axial, MPR and with virtual cystoscopy
question4. Are there any other drugs or medications used in CT?
