Vascular Cognitive Impairment (VCI) encompasses a spectrum of cognitive decline attributable to vascular pathology, ranging from subjective cognitive decline and mild cognitive impairment to dementia. The primary clinical manifestations include cognitive decline and behavioral abnormalities. Failure to identify the location and severity of brain injury early on and initiate timely therapeutic intervention may lead to irreversible cognitive impairment. Today, with the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI), AI has become capable of efficiently and accurately analyzing vast amounts of data. Consequently, an increasing number of scholars are choosing to integrate AI with medical imaging to conduct research on segmentation, prediction, diagnosis, and differentiation of VCI. This paper reviews the classification of VCI, the application of artificial intelligence in medical imaging, relevant applications of AI and medical imaging in VCI, limitations, and future prospects.
