Historically, cardiac imaging has been the most challenging task for computed tomography (CT).1 Several factors make imaging of the heart difficult. In later discussion, the challenges and technological solutions are itemized. In many cases, differences exist in technology, as different solutions are better suited for different clinical situations (eg, prospective gating using axial/sequential scanning vs slow helical/spiral pitch retrospective gating). Furthermore, different CT vendors have developed diverging technologies in some cases (eg, dual source vs wide axial).
