OBJECTIVE. Small renal mass is a new distinct clinical entity. Detection of these tumors has increased with increased use of imaging.
CONCLUSION. We know that a proportion of these tumors are not renal cell carcinoma, and imaging-guided biopsy is being increasingly used for treatment planning. The objectives of this review are to provide an update on our current understanding of the biology of small renal masses and to review approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of these lesions.
