R-SCAN: Follow-Up for Adnexal Cysts.
J Am Coll Radiol. 2017 Jul;14(7):944-946. doi: 10.1016/j.jacr.2017.04.006. Epub 2017 May 24. Broder JC1, Jimenez JJ2, Flye CW3.
Most of the Choosing Wisely recommendations focus on changing the practice patterns of ordering clinicians, for instance, not ordering head CT for uncomplicated headache or not ordering preoperative chest radiography for ambulatory patients with unremarkable histories and physical examinations. Decreasing clinicians’ orders for unnecessary imaging, however, addresses only one of the factors contributing to high rates of imaging utilization. Radiologists’ recommendations for follow-up imaging are another important factor [1,2]. Thus, the ACR also recommends that radiologists not recommend follow-up for clinically inconsequential adnexal cysts .
