With the use of nonoperative management after blunt trauma and in carefully selected patients with penetrating trauma, diagnosis and exclusion of surgically important injuries are imperative, and injuries missed at multidetector computed tomography (CT) can have dire consequences. Diagnostic errors are responsible for approximately 10%–15% of preventable deaths in trauma center audits. Misses and misinterpretations at abdominopelvic trauma CT can contribute to these diagnostic errors and follow recurring patterns. Spreading awareness of these patterns can reduce future errors, thus decreasing the likelihood of poor outcomes and complications.
