Acquisition Phase | Phase Included | Scan Delay | Respiration Phase | Anatomical Coverage |
Non Contrast | Yes | N/A | inspiration | scan range to include kidneys only |
Arterial Phase | Yes | bolus triggered | inspiration | scan range to include diaphragm through pubic symphysis |
Venous Phase | Yes | 60 sec | inspiration | scan range to include diaphragm through iliac crest |
Delayed Phase | Yes | 5 min | inspiration | scan range to include both kidneys through bladder |
Scan Comments: When evaluating for Transitional Cell Carcinoma the arterial phase images should extend through the bladder as lesions can occur anywhere along the urinary tract. Scan ranges are limited to a specific area of interest to avoid unnecessary patient dose. The noncontrast phase can often be excluded for F/U studies. All scans are performed using the ALARA principle. |
Technical Parameters | Parameters |
kVp | 120 |
Effective mAs | 300 |
Time (Rotation) | 0.5 sec |
Average Acquisition Time | 10-12 sec |
Collimation | 64 x 0.6mm |
Pitch Value | 0.8 |
Scan Direction | craniocaudal |
Comments:The Effective mAs is adjusted based on a patient’s body habitus. Dose reduction software can be used to maintain image quality while lowering patient dose. In addition, the dose can be lowered on noncontrast and delayed imaging to avoid unnecessary patient dose. |
